When the tree at the Bell Tower lights up on the night after Thanksgiving, which doors along that block will be open? The two busiest nights of Placerville's holiday calendar are built around 385 Main St. Within a short walk of that address, Placerville Public House is moving to new owners and Enchanted Forest is getting ready to reopen under a new operator. Every other stop on this season's map sits around those two rooms.
Four dates, all on the same street
Placerville Merchants on Main and the City of Placerville have the 2026 downtown calendar posted. It runs in this order:
- Saturday, Nov. 21, 3 to 8 p.m.: Third Saturday on Main. Shops and galleries stay open late, with artist demos, live music, a scavenger hunt, merchant promotions and drink specials, according to Placerville Merchants on Main.
- Friday, Nov. 27: Hometown Holiday on Main and the tree lighting. The City of Placerville lists the event at the Bell Tower, 385 Main St., from 4 to 8 p.m., with the tree lit at 6 p.m. The Merchants on Main listing gives 4 to 7 p.m. for the street festivities and adds live music, food and drinks, Santa, and a Whoville costume contest at Placerville Antiques.
- Sunday, Dec. 6, 1 p.m.: the 48th annual Hangtown Christmas Parade. The theme is "All American Christmas," and the parade starts on Broadway.
- Saturday, Dec. 19, 3 to 8 p.m.: Third Saturday on Main again. It brings another round of late shopping, demos, live music and merchant promotions, with wine, cider and beer tasting on select dates.
The two Saturdays open and close the season, and the tree lighting and parade fall in between. All four happen on Main Street, and the tree lighting brings everyone to one address, 385 Main.
The handoffs near the Bell Tower
Two of the 300 block's best-known dining rooms are changing hands this fall.
Placerville Public House, 305 Main St. WhatNow Sacramento reported in August that Boek Business LLC, led by Daniel and Erica Boek, filed for a new liquor license on Aug. 17. Erica Boek told the outlet the ownership change was in process. The same report says the pub opened in 2016 and is known locally as The Pub. It describes scratch-made pub food like loaded nachos, fully dressed footlong dogs and street flatbread pizzas, rotating craft beer and local wines, and regular live music in a family-friendly room. Placerville NewsWire covered the same transition and also lists the pub at 305 Main. This season, The Pub sits between a long-running format and new owners.
Enchanted Forest, 372 Main St. This room has been through more. Placerville NewsWire reported on Sept. 27 that the restaurant announced its closing in September 2025 after the building sold, and that it served its final meals in October 2025, as the Sacramento Bee reported at the time. Less than a year later, Deb, who owns Mattywags and Treehouse, announced she had taken over the restaurant. She plans to keep its identity while opening more days, expanding the menu and adding entertainment. "We are on to a new adventure!!" she wrote in her announcement, as quoted by NewsWire. As of that report, she was hiring and no reopening date had been set.
The Enchanted Forest has a following beyond the county. Its fantasy-themed room has served fondue, crepes, pasties and themed drinks. In 2024 it won its episode of Food Network's "Best Bite in Town" with the Gold Miners Irish Pasty Pie, according to the Sacramento Bee as cited by NewsWire. Mattywags, the new operator's other Main Street shop, is just a few doors away at 376 Main St., according to its location page.
So both rooms are in transition on Nov. 27. Neither has closed for good, and neither has announced a new opening. Check their own pages before planning a holiday dinner around either one.
The steady doors around 385 Main
That puts more of the season on the nearby merchants who aren't changing hands. The Merchants on Main directory lists these stops in order of street number, and the 300 and 400 blocks hold most of them.
| Address | Place | What it is | Best paired with |
|---|---|---|---|
| 251 Main St. | The Green Room Social Club | Social club and bar | An evening after Third Saturday |
| 304 Main St. | Toogood Cellars | Wine-tasting room | Dec. 19 tasting stops |
| 311 Main St. | Franny's Farm Table | Restaurant | Dinner before the 6 p.m. lighting |
| 326 Main St. | The Bookery | New and used books, records | Gift shopping on Nov. 21 |
| 398 Main St. | T.W. Bonkers | Toys, candy, gifts | Steps from the Bell Tower on Nov. 27 |
| 442 Main St. | Cuppa Coffee & More | Coffee | A warm cup before the parade |
| 451 Main St. | Amore Mio Italian Bistro | Italian restaurant | A sit-down dinner on either Saturday |
| 451 Main St. | Flourless Patisserie | Gluten-free bakery | Treats to carry along the route |
By street number, T.W. Bonkers at 398 is the nearest of these to the Bell Tower at 385. On a night with Santa on the street and a costume contest underway, a toy and candy shop on the same block is an easy stop for families. Toogood Cellars at 304 shares the low end of the 300 block with The Pub at 305, which makes it a natural first stop on Dec. 19, when the association promotes wine, cider and beer tastings.
The two newest additions to Main Street are farther up the street. Sacramento Business Journal reported that Sociology Coffee Bar opened at 564 Main St. in June 2025. Indian Pizza & Bar opened in September 2025 and lists 512 Main St. as its address. Both sit a couple of blocks past the Bell Tower by street number, so they fit best on a Third Saturday, when shops along the street stay open late.
Parade Sunday has a hard schedule
The Dec. 6 parade is the one date that depends on timing. The 2026 flyer from Hangtown Christmas Parade, Inc. closes Main Street and Broadway from noon to 4 p.m., and the parade steps off from Broadway at 1 p.m. The flyer promises floats, a marching band, carolers and Santa, and names Kris Payne as this year's grand marshal.
Coming from Broadway, plan to park and walk in before noon. With the street closed to traffic, the stretch from the 300 block to the 400 block works as one long viewing area. Cuppa Coffee & More at 442 and Flourless Patisserie at 451 are both in that stretch for anyone who arrives early and wants something to hold while they wait. The road reopens at 4 p.m., which leaves the rest of Sunday afternoon for a late lunch on Main.
Planning each date around the block
With the Bell Tower block in mind, each date has a simple plan:
- Nov. 21: Start at the 500 block with coffee at Sociology, then walk toward 385 Main as the galleries open late. The Bookery and T.W. Bonkers are both along the way for an early start on gifts.
- Nov. 27: Book dinner at a steady room like Franny's Farm Table or Amore Mio for before or after the 6 p.m. lighting. The city lists the event running until 8 p.m. and Merchants on Main lists the street festivities ending at 7, so give the evening some slack.
- Dec. 6: Get there before the noon closure, watch from anywhere on the 300 or 400 block, and save lunch for after 4 p.m.
- Dec. 19: Start with tastings near 304 Main. If Enchanted Forest or The Pub has announced its next chapter by then, the final Saturday of the season is the natural night to stop in.
