Downtown finally gets a rooftop
The most-watched build in the city is at 320 Vernon Street, where Old Town Pizza is turning the former downtown post office into a two-level dining destination. The team has reaffirmed a June 2026 opening for its main dining room and rooftop space. The building itself has history on its side: Old Town purchased the historic 1930s-era building in September 2024. Phase 1 covers the main floor for Old Town Pizza and Slice Beer Co. plus the rooftop, with a second phase that would involve renovating the basement into an event space with a speakeasy-style concept.
The scale matters for downtown. Once fully operational, the Roseville location is expected to create 30 to 40 new jobs, in addition to the roughly 80 employees currently working across Old Town Pizza's existing operations. Co-owner Reese Browning has framed the project as "watching our team bring a historic, underused property back to life" and "something the community can be proud of."
Douglas Boulevard is quietly changing its accent

La Provence closed last September after two decades of serving upscale French fare. The incoming operator runs restaurants in Truckee and Reno and also operates Tangerine French Bistro in North Lake Tahoe.
If you were watching La Provence's departure as a signal that the neighborhood had lost its appetite for special-occasion dining, the follow-up says otherwise. Two decades of upscale French gave way to farm-to-table Italian. The price point and occasion type are likely similar. The cuisine and identity are entirely different. The address kept its ticket average. The flag changed.
Rocky Ridge and West Roseville pick their own concepts
The dumpling and donut openings are in a different tier of the market and their addresses show why. Lao Hu Tong Dumpling House is taking a prominent slot at Rocky Ridge Town Center, which is anchored by Sprouts Farmers Market and located near Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center and Maidu Regional Park, and draws from a dense and affluent surrounding community, with a population exceeding 100,000 within a three-mile radius and an average household income topping $126,000. The neighboring tenants read like a Rocky Ridge shopping list: Dos Coyotes Border Cafe, Starbucks, Noah's New York Bagels, Jersey Mike's Subs, Teaspoon, Jamba, YogaSix, Orangetheory Fitness, BevMo!, Pieology, AT&T, Wells Fargo, and European Wax Center.
In West Roseville, the recent activity is smaller-format and drive-thru-friendly. Donuts & Coffey has opened in West Roseville Marketplace, and on March 12, 2026, Flynn Group filed plans to open a 7 Brew Coffee drive-thru at 10201 Fairway Drive, a compact two-lane kiosk near Lowe's and Trader Joe's, which continues the buildout of that particular stretch of west Roseville. Roseville is where it chose to expand in the Sacramento region, and co-founder Xavi Padrosa has said publicly that he picked The Fountains because the open-air layout reminded him of a Mediterranean setting. Alongside it, Escapology, a fully immersive escape room concept with 12 themed rooms, is coming. EVEREVE, a boutique-style fashion retailer carrying more than 150 brands, is arriving spring 2026. Meanwhile, at the Galleria promenade a short drive away, Design Within Reach and King's Fish House will join Roseville Galleria's promenade. Two different centers, two different tenant strategies. The Fountains is stacking experience concepts. The Galleria is stacking premium retail plus one destination seafood house.
The pickleball footnote is actually the story

The signal reading is the right one. When one of the local franchisees is already planning follow-on locations in Elk Grove, Folsom, and Rocklin before opening day, the operator's own capital allocation says the Roseville site is a proof point, not a bet.
